What made you start your business?
After dealing with postpartum anxiety following the birth of my son, Sawyer, I needed an outlet (and Zoloft). I had purchased a laser several months prior thinking it could be a fun “hobby,” but instead of using it for fun, I decided to jump all-in and start The Subtle Sawyer.
What is your biggest business accomplishment so far?
The biggest business related accomplishment I’ve reached so far is not only being able to use some pretty gnarly power tools, but having my husband ask me how to use those tools!
How do you handle competition in your field/market?
I am a firm believer in community over competition. Through my business I’ve been able to connect with many small business owners, including those who make and sell items similar to mine. I believe that people and relationships are more important than gaining all the business you can.
Tell us about a typical day in your life as a business owner.
I am a mom first and a business owner second. This means that my days are spent running kids between school, gymnastics, and swimming lessons. Many emails are responded to while sitting in the school pickup up line and many designs are created with a kid on my lap and Disney+ playing in the background. The few hours a day that both my kids are in school are spent in my shop, making sawdust and fulfilling orders.
