Meet Denette of Little Wildflower

Meet Denette! She designs and creates beautiful jewelry including some rings and earrings available at Autumn and June!

What made you start your business?

I have always enjoyed creating.  I grew up in a home where I watched my parents enjoy hobbies that fed their creativity.  My mom enjoyed sewing  and my dad enjoyed woodworking.  Neither of those things were their profession, but rather a creative outlet. For years I quilted, cutting fabric into tiny pieces and putting it back together was pure heaven.  So naturally when I went on a girls trip with my sisters and mom, which included making jewelry I fell in love.  I loved taking the pieces of wire and stones to create a beautiful piece of jewelry.   I am a few years into this adventure and continue to learn.  I take classes and experiment on my own.  I have had many failures, including burning my hair.  No fear...I learned to pull it back and haven't had a repeat problem.  On my list of things to learn is tube setting...hopefully this summer.

What is your biggest business related struggle?

My biggest struggle with business is bookkeeping.  I tell myself if I spend time on the books, I can be rewarded by playing in my "toy room", which is what my husband calls it.  I feel like a little kid trying to motivate myself to keep track of inventory or the cost of the jewelry...I just want to create!
Tell us a bit about your business hours and schedule.

I am a full time 5th grade teacher, which means I make and sell in the evenings and on weekends.  I'm not much of a TV watcher, so it is common for me to be in my toy room instead.
What is your favorite product you make/sell?

My favorite product is the white jade ring.  I don't have one of my own.  I actually sold it off my finger at a boutique and haven't made another one in my size yet...hopefully soon.  There is something about it that is dainty and vintage.  It is beautiful all by itself, or with stack rings surrounding it.
What is your best selling item?

My best selling item is the heart ring.  The story behind it was almost accidental.  I was prepping for a boutique that I knew had a cheer competition next door.  I needed to make something that young girls would love and at a price point they could afford.  I found a wire wrap tutorial and modified it by soldering, making the ring higher quality.  The ring was a success at the boutique and has continued to be a great seller.
