Meet Crystal, owner and creator of Copper Deflections. She creates beautiful, functional art from salvaged copper wire- including the gorgeous bookmarks available on my website!
What made you start your business?
Being a bookworm myself, It started as a hobby. I gifted designs to family and friends. Many years later with encouragement from my lover, family/friends of how unique and beautiful/special my designs are. Plus my 3 kids all in school, I have the time to work on my craftsmanship. Something I always wanted for myself. For my kids to see I can be a mom and start my own business with my passion to create and be artsy.
Biggest struggle in your business?
Having to wear all the hats… all the background details, content creator, marketing, accounting, data entry….I just want to design and bend wire LOL.
Biggest accomplishment so far?
I started with 9 designs and I thought that was a lot to handle. Now I am at 92 designs and adding more as often as I can. Realizing I can do this and keeping everything organized and up-to date all on my own!
How many hours do you work a week and what does your schedule look like?
This is a tough one, starting my own business it’s mentally working 24/7 always on my mind, how can I improve my products and designs….
Physically working with my hands is 2-3 hours daily.
What are 3 business goals you have for the next year?
To have my designs/products in a physical bookstore.
My own website.
To have daily orders come on, Goal of 500pcs sold in 2023 is what I would like to hit this year. Will I, I hope so.
Tell us about a typical day in your life as a business owner.
I give the first few hours of the day to my kids, once they are off to school I workout to clear my mind and get dressed for the day. If I get dressed for the day out of my pjs I have a stronger mindset to keep myself going.
I physically work for about 2/3 hours daily in the afternoon on either orders or create designs. By late afternoon everyone is trickling home. Dinner and nighttime routine. Between all of that I’m working on social media posts, updating listings, responding to comments and figuring out how else can I push my designs.
What is your favorite product you make/sell?
This is another hard question! Every time I create a New Design I’m addicted to it, till I make the next one… it happens every time. Currently it’s the Book Hooks!
What is your best selling item?
Most sold item is actually my Name/Place Card Holders because usually they are sold in bulk quantities. But in bookmarks it is the Kitty Cat with the heart tail.

Thank you for allowing me to carry your beautiful pieces in my shop, Crystal!
